Fox Basked in Tiger's Reflected Glory

A tiger caught a fox in a forest, and was just about to eat it, when the sly fox said, 'You mustn't eat me. I was sent by Heaven to rule the animals. By eating me, you will violate the command of Heaven. If you don't believe me, just follow me to see whether the animals are of me.' The tiger agreed, and followed the fox as it walked around the forest. The animals all ran away on seeing them. The tiger thought they were of the fox, so he let it go.

He didn't realise that it was him that the beasts were really of.

Staying by a Stump Waiting for More Hares To Come and Dash Themselves Against It
This story took place more than 2,000 years ago,in the Warring States period（475-221 B.C.）.Tradition has it that in the State of Song at that time there was a man who was famous for staying by a stump waiting for more hares to come and dash themselves against it.
He was a yong farmer, and his family had been farmers for generations.Year after year and generation after generation, farmers used to sow in spring and harvest in autumn, beginning to work at sunrise and retiring at sunset. In good harvest years, they could only have enough food to eat and enough clothing to wear.If there was a famine due to crop failure, they had to go hungry.
This young farmer wanted to improve his life. But he was too lazy and too cowardly.Being lazy and cowardly over everything,he often dreamed of having unexpected blessings.
A miracle took place at last. One day in late autumn, when he was ploughing in the field, two groups of people were hunting nearby. As shoutings were rising one after another, scared hares were running desperately.Suddenly,a blind hare dashed itself headlong against the stump of a dead tree in his field and died.
 That day,he ate his fill.
From that day on,he no longer went in for farming again. From morning till night,he stayed by that miraculous stump, waiting for miracles to take place again.
This story comes from"The Five Vermin"in The Works of Han Feizi.Later generations often use the set phrase"staying by a stump waiting for more hares to come and dash themselves against it"to show grusting to chance and windfalls or dreaming to reap without sowing. It is also used to show adhering to narrow experiences and not being able to be flexible.

The story tells us of a man from Song Kuo (Song Kuo was a small country in Warring States Period of ancient China.). When he saw his crops were growing slowly, he was very worried. So one day, he pulled on the crops with his hands to make the plants look taller than they were before.

After he was finished, he was exhausted. When he got home, the man said to his family:” I'm worn out, but I have made the crops grow faster than ever.”

His son heard that and then immediately went to the field. He saw that all of the crops were wilted.

This idiom means that everything has its rule. If you break the rule, you must be punished. The attempt to succeed quickly only makes matter worse.

This story was from the classical book named <The works of Mencius> .
Mencius was a great man who lived in Warring States Period about BC 390-BC 305 in ancient China. He represented the teachings of Confucius and became as famous as Confucius.

The grass is beginning to grow, the flowers are in bud, the birds are coming back from the South. Everywhere you can find kids playing and you can hear the happy laughter. I like the spring season, it gives a person hope.

At this time, I often remind the poem---- < spring morning>
By Mèng Hàorán
sleeping in spring don't know morning
everywhere can hear sound of birds
sound of wind and rain comes in night
how many flowers draw can you know?

The grass is beginning to grow, the flowers are in bud, the birds are coming back from the South. Everywhere you can find kids playing and you can hear the happy laughter. I like the spring season, it gives a person hope.
At this time, I often remind the poem---- < spring morning>
By Mèng Hàorán
sleeping in spring don't know morning
everywhere can hear sound of birds
sound of wind and rain comes in night
how many flowers draw can you know?

Gaoshanliushui is one of Chinese idiom. Its literal means is high mountain and running river. In fact, it was used to describe bosom friends or a beautiful music.
It is from a Chinese ancient story. In Chan Kuo period of ancient china, there is a person named Yu Boya who was a famous musician. One time, he went to visit Tai shan (which lied in Shandong province of China) by boat. Unfortunately, when he arrived there, it was storm. At that time, there was nothing to do, so Yu Boya began to play. His first music was about raining that was very lingering, his second music was about landslide that was very roaring. At that time, He suddenly heard an applause from someone. He immediately went out to look for the person. He found a woodman standing on the bank. He invited the person to went to his boat, and played for him. First, he played a music named <High mountain>. At the end, the person said:” so good, there is a high mountain just like Tai shan.” Yu Boya was very happy. Second, he played a music named <running river>. After he played it, the woodman said:” so great, there is a running river just like Changjiang river and Huanghe river.”
After introducing themselves, He known that the woodman’s name was Zhong Ziqi. They talked about music a long time, and felt very well. When they said goodbye, they made a date to meet each other the next year. But after that soon, Zhong Ziqi died for some reason.
The next year, when Yu Boya came there for the appointment, he beat his breast in agony after he learnt that. Zhong ziqi’s father brought Yu Boya to his tomb. In front of the tomb, he played the music <High Mountain> and <Running River>. After that, he broken his musical instrument. Zhong’s father asked him that why he did that. He said:” Without Zhong ziqi, who can understand my music?”
From that, people called good friends as “Zhiyin”, and used this idiom to describe bosom friends.
